Brad Gardiner, CEO Prosper Petroleum, Calgary discusses how Proflux and Oilflow Solutions have helped to increase the value generated by the Kimiwan field located in the Peace River country of North Western Alberta, Canada

“I was aware of the successful Proflux pilot tests in the Seal Lake area in 2007, on cold horizontal primary producers. Our wells are very similar to the Seal Lake wells, and we use PC Pumps to produce heavy oil in the API range of 10-12. As is the case with other operators in Western Canada, our oil can be very challenging to produce and we often experience low production rates due to high oil viscosities leading to high torque in the PC Pumps.

The Seal Lake pilots in 2007 showed that Proflux would reduce torque and allow increased oil rates. Following discussions with the Oilflow Technical team, and a fluid screening study carried out by their chemists, we chose to deploy the Proflux Technology on a 3 well trial. The results were outstanding with oil rates more than doubling; in addition we observed a reduction in the frequency of operator visits to well sites due to the improved pump run times.

As we were in the middle of a major drilling program we decided to also deploy Proflux in new wells, where we expected to produce very viscous API 10 oil. Our expectation was, that by increasing produced fluid mobilities with Proflux we would create an opportunity to increase the value of our reserves by establishing consistently high production rates, and this has proven to be the case.

Initially we had some reservations about Oilflow’s ability to mobilise and deploy well site injection and monitoring package during winter, but we have been very pleased with both the delivery and the service package. The results remain very positive

We awarded Oilflow Solutions a Service & Supply contract in November 2008 and we are gradually increasing the deployment of Proflux on carefully selected wells. This program is increasing our production rates, improving well site efficiency and increasing our reserve value.”
